HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR FUEL ECONOMY

An important skill needed for becoming a fuel efficient driver is th ability to calculate your fuel efficiency in mpg or Km/L. With this skill you will be able to know the average distance in miles/Km that can be covered per litre,  it will let you know if your car is consuming excess fuel when you compare to the normal fuel consumption.  This will also help you out in planning your budgets.

The easiest way to determine your fuel efficiency is the odometer reading.‎
 ‎
 IN MILES PER LITRE  (MPL)‎
 ‎
1. Refill your fuel tank and record the current odometer reading on your dashboard.

2. Continue with your normal driving and monitor your fuel as it reduces to half tank. Once it reaches half or bellow half tank, Record the odometer reading again.‎

3. Then you go and refill your tank record the number of litres it took to be filled.

4. Subtract the first reading from the last one to get the actual distance covered in miles after your last refill.

5. Divide the distance covered in miles by the amount of fuel in litres it took you to refill your tank.

The result gotten is your average miles per litre . You can continue repeating this procedure to track your fuel efficiency and resolve to improve it.

IN KILOMETERS PER LITRE.

The same formula and procedures, what you have to do is just replace the average distance in miles  with the average distance in  km. You'll be able to get your fuel efficiency in Km/litre‎
